LOVER'S LIES

Cara Jones

Sometimes your politics are alarmingly right-wing
but I've never seen you once put on your wedding ring
You say you're there for me... when you're not it's no surprise
cause your actions make the things you say resemble lover's lies

You call me on the phone but only if I've left
messages with she who gets to share your marriage bed
You call me crazy when I often doubt your love
but I'd give anything to see this situation from above

If I were an eagle I would circle round your home
Always know who came and went when you say you're alone
If I were a spider I would crawl into your brain
and somehow know for certain if you mean the things you say

You say you married her because you felt you must
and the little band of gold did not negate our trust
This circumstance is different... you had to do what's right
But your words can hardly comfort me when I'm alone at night

If I were an eagle I would circle round your home
Always know who came and went when you say you're alone
If I were a spider I would crawl into your brain
and somehow know for certain if you mean the things you say

You can feed your fine lines to the hungry birds
Cause your actions speak louder than your words

When you are alone with me there never is a doubt
that your words are all sincere and your actions meet them out
But when I've thought it over after you have come and gone
I can't deny the fool I am and have been all along

If I were an eagle I would circle round your home
Always know who came and went when you say you're alone
If I were a spider I would crawl into your brain
and somehow know for certain if you mean the things you say
